You Only Live Once – YOLO party on a Wednesday night in Barvista is where I first learned this concept. That was some time after I had settled down in my be-loved cozy university town, Leuven and started to embrace different possibilities of life. My life before Leuven was a typical path for most of the Chinese kids, we work really hard to get into a better school, a better university then a better career. We devote most of our time in study and neglect things that interest us. I “accomplished” the path with an offer from Big four. During countless business trips of my six years professional life, I have been to many places but never really seen any.
My lovely friend Huanhuan, met a nice lady from England during her graduation trip around Europe. After the lady tragically lost her husband to cancer, she quit her job three years before her entitled retirement age and started her world tour adventure. Her husband’s passing away had made she realize life is too short to wait… wait for full retirement benefit package, wait for the right time, wait for enough money… after all, You Only Live Once, Make it Beautiful!
YOLO is not an excuse for quitting but an inspiration of living. Start with small changes, a nice song, a fun movie, a hearted catch up with friends, or like me, a blog I have thought about for ages but never started until now…
